چکیده
Purpose: During a large outbreak of Salmonella typhimurium (S. typhimurium) in Denmark in 2008, a remarkable high incidence was observed among children below the age of 1 year. Therefore we performed this retrospective study to describe the epidemiology, severity and outcome among a subset of children in this age-group. Methods: Cases were identified for the years 2000-2009 through a register at the Department of Clinical Microbiology at Hvidovre Hospital, in the Copenhagen area, Denmark. For hospitalized patients below 1 year with S. typhimurium, the medical record was reviewed. Results: The highest incidence for S. typhimurium was observed in 2008 with 315 cases per 100,000 among children below 1 year. In 2008 significantly more children age <6 months were admitted to the hospital compared to infants 6 12 months. The duration of symptoms before admittance was shorter among the infants in 2008, compared to the group consisting of infants in other years 20002009 (p = 0.04). None of the children had bacteremia or meningitis, and none of the children died. Conclusion: During the S. typhimurium outbreak in 2008, the incidence was especially high among infants age under 1 year. The infants in 2008 might have been slightly more affected than other years 2000-2009.

An outbreak of multidrug resistant. Salmonella typhimurium in a nursery.
A nursery epidemic caused by multidrug resistant Salmonella typhimurium is reported. In total, 21 infants developed symptomatic illness; of these, 17 had septicemia (7 blood culture positive) and 4 had diarrhea alone. Asymptomatic carrier state was identified in 13 infants. Male sex and birth asphyxia increased the risk for symptomatic illness. Fever, lethargy, and diarrhea were the most common...

This paper describes outbreaks of Salmonella Typhimurium phage type 197 (STm197) linked to eggs from the farm of a single egg producer. Epidemiological and microbiological investigations (genotyping by multiple locus variable number tandem repeats analysis [MLVA]) identified outbreaks of STm197 with the same or closely-related MLVA profiles in a series of restaurants across Brisbane over 2 mont...

متن کاملIdentification of Salmonella spp. and Salmonella typhimurium by a multiplex PCR-based assay from poultry carcasses in Mashhad- Iran
Poultry meat has been identified as one of the principal foodborne sources of Salmonella. In this preliminary study the prevalence of Salmonella spp. and its typhimurium serovar contamination of broiler carcasses, were determined. Using the rinse test method, numbers of 60 samples, representing 20 broiler flocks, were collected from poultry carcasses after the chilling stage in the processing l...
متن کاملSalmonella Typhimurium Outbreak Associated with Veterinary Clinic
A Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium outbreak was associated with a veterinary clinic. Confirmed cases were in one cat, two veterinary technicians, four persons associated with clinic patients, and a nurse not linked to the clinic. This outbreak emphasizes the importance of strong public health ties to the animal health community.
